Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was an Austrian Symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Art Nouveau movement. Inspired by Italian mosaics, Klimt used gold leaf and Byzantine imagery to dramatic effect in his erotic portraits.
This spectacular suite of jewellery was inspired by the silver hoops and golden swirls in the background of Klimt's portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer, painted in 1907. A single circle of onyx reflects his dramatic use of black.
Onyx is traditionally given as a gift to celebrate ten years of marriage.
