○ The Mackintosh Copper Rose Collection ○

The Copper Rose range of jewellery is inspired by the stencilled mural decoration on the wall of Miss Cranston's Tea Rooms in Buchanan Street, Glasgow, which was undoubtedly a stylized portrait of his wife, Margaret Macdonald. His work was full of symbolism and hidden meaning. Above her head are seven lotus flowers and in the centre of her body is a rose, now known as the Mackintosh Rose. This is true Art Nouveau design and shows Mackintosh at his most creative.

Design for a stencilled mural decoration by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Hunterian Museum, University of Glasgow.

Art is the Flower. Life is the Green Leaf.
Let every artist strive to make his flower a beautiful living thing,
something that will convince the world that there may be, there are,
things more precious more beautiful - more lasting than life itself.
