Many of us have good luck charms or amulets which we take with us when we travel or make a wish. Peacock feathers have been considered good luck since early civilisation. Peacocks originated in Eastern Asia and are mentioned in the Bible. They were prized by the pharaohs of Egypt and the bird was identified with Hera (Juno) who created the Peacock from Argus and whose hundred eyes, seen on the tail feathers, symbolize the vault of heaven and the stars.
In Persia the Peacock was seen as a guardian to royalty, and found in engravings on the royal thrones. In Hinduism the Peacock is associated with Lakshmi, a deity representing benevolence, patience, kindness, compassion and good luck. Peacock Feathers are said to carry spiritual healing energy that can be used to assist people seeking balance and harmony.
The Peacock is a possessor of some of the most admired human characteristics; it is a symbol of integrity and the beauty we can achieve when we endeavor to show our true colours. It was often featured in the work of the Pre-Raphaelite artists, the inspiration for this collection of beautiful jewellery in silver, goldplate and enamel.
